April 10th: Green Streets Block Party, 4pm to 7pm

Join Watershed Management Group for an evening fundraiser that will include catered dinner featuring local, organic ingredients and live music from Spirit Familia - whose mix of African, Latin, Reggae, and Funk will have you dancing in the street.  The event will begin with tours of WMG’s award winning work to green neighborhood streets in the Rincon Heights Neighborhood.  We'll be closing off two street blocks around the Feld Davis park (8th St. & Martin) in the Rincon Heights neighborhood for this festive party!

April 10th: Street Painting Event, 10am to 1pm

As part of our Green Streets Block Party, we will be painting a vibrant, environmental mural in the street around the Feld Davis Park (8th St. and Martin).  Local artist, Rocky Martinez, will be overseeing the street painting activity.  This free event is geared for the whole family.  To sign up for this event email Josh Colwell or call 520-396-3266.  Space is limited.

April 17th: Samos Neighborhood Green Streets Workshop, 8am to 1pm

Don't just plant a tree for Earth Month - plant the rain to grow the tree!  Get your hands dirty and transform a neighborhood street into a green street while learning practical skills for harvesting stormwater.  We'll start by planting the water - creating large-scale stormwater harvesting earthworks along Samos neighborhood streets.  Then we'll plant a beautiful assortment of native shade trees, as well as flowering plants to attract hummingbirds and butterflies.  Participants will also enjoy live music and a catered lunch.  Samos Neighborhood is located in central Tucson near Campbell and Grant Roads. To be a part of this street-transforming workshop, please RSVP to Catlow Shipek or call 520-396-3266.

April 18th: Green Streets Bike Tours, 10am and 11am

Join WMG for a guided bike tour of community demonstration sites that feature rainwater harvesting, stormwater harvesting, and native habitat in central Tucson. The tour will follow routes that are closed to car traffic, during Tucson's first Cyclovia event, an event that promotes walking, cycling, and neighborhood events in the street (www.cycloviatucson.org).

WMG staff will start tours at 10am and 11am. The 10am tour will be a slower-paced tour lasting two hours. More experienced riders can sign up for the 11am tour, which will cover a longer route over two hours.  The tour will cover WMG's award winning work in the Rincon Heights Neighborhood, the University of Arizona Visitor Center, and the Ward III and VI City Council Offices, and will include guest speakers from the Sonoran Institute and Technicians for Sustainability.  The tour will begin in the Rincon Heights neighborhood on Cherry Ave between 7th and 8th St. and will end in the same neighborhood at 8th St. and Martin Ave.

To join the tour, please purchase tickets in advance (minimum donation of $5 per person).  You may purchase tickets now by clicking on the "Buy Tickets" button above.  Please indicate in the comments section how many tickets you are purchasing and which tour you would like to attend (10a or 11am).  Donations may be made at the tour as well.  If you have any questions about this event, please contact Lisa Shipek.

April 24th:  WMG Co-op Extravaganza, 8am to 12pm

WMG's Co-op invites you to participate in a special joint Co-op workshop.  Two neighboring members of WMG's Co-op will host simultaneous Co-op workshops.  Participants will install a greywater system at one residence, and a culvert-style cistern at the other.  Members of the general community may participate either as Co-op workshop volunteers or may attend an 11am workshop tour.  Tour participants will learn how to reduce their utility bills by properly managing on-site natural resources, while beautifying their site and enhancing the local environment.  Suggested donation for the tour is $5.  To sign up to participate in one of the Co-op workshops or join the tour, RSVP to co-op@watershedmg.org.

April 24th: WMG Co-op Bazaar, 12:00pm to 2pm

Watershed Management Group invites the Tucson community to its inaugural Co-op Bazaar, which will be held at Mansfield Park.  This is your opportunity to practice your bartering skills!  All are invited to barter home-grown produce, skills, and volunteer workshop hours with our water harvesting Co-op.  WMG's Co-op is based on the barn-raising model, where people volunteer their labor to build sustainable systems (like water harvesting systems) and in turn earn the ability to host a workshop at their own home with a volunteer crew. In order to join the bartering fun, please sign up with Matthew Bertrand or call 520-396-3266.  When signing up, you will need to list the produce (e.g. fruits, vegetables, chicken eggs, herbs, native edibles) or skills (e.g. tutoring, personal training, home repair, babysitting) you have to barter. The event will also include live music.  Even if you don't plan on bartering, feel free to drop in to check out the action.
