Soil Stewards

Imagine healthy, productive soils expanding throughout the urban environment -- retaining rainwater like a sponge, processing stormwater pollutants, delivering nutrients sustainably to plants for wildlife value and food production -- Watershed Management Group is piloting a new program to develop urban Soil Stewards to realize such a vision!

Soil Stewards operate at both the individual and neighborhood scales. Read below to find out more and get involved!

Soil Steward Composting Toilet Program: Seeking Participants

Are you…

    • An early adopter who likes to be part of a cutting-edge pilot program to influence city and state policy?
    • Tired of flushing potable water down the toilet and interested in building a legal composting toilet for your home?
    • Interested in using alternative composting systems to improve your soil and fertilize trees and other plants?
    • Want to get geeky about soil – how to build healthy soils and conserve water while producing food and lush native landscapes?

    If you attended an informational session on Thursday, Feb 9th or Wednesday, Feb 15th then you may apply to become a Soil Steward and participate in the composting toilet pilot program.

    Would your neighborhood like to…

    • Use locally produced organic mulch to enhance water harvesting basins, community gardens, parks, and private properties?
    • Collect and process tree trimmings as a resource instead of sending them off to the landfill?
    • Learn to enhance desert soils, save water, and promote local wildlife habitat and food production?
